6061 Aluminum Bar Alloy Introduction
6061 aluminum bar, including square bars, round bars, flat bars and so on, AL-Mg alloy is the most widely used rust proof aluminum, which has high strength, especially fatigue resistance: high plasticity and corrosion resistance, cannot be strengthened by heat treatment, good plasticity during semi cold work hardening, low plasticity during cold work hardening, good corrosion resistance, good weldability, poor machinability, and can be polished. The main use is for low load parts that require high plasticity and good weldability, working in liquid or gas media, such as oil tanks, gasoline or lubricant conduits, various liquid containers, and other low load parts made by deep drawing: wire is used to make rivets.

Common grades of aluminum bars
1000 series: This is a pure aluminum series, including grades 1050, 1060, 1070, 1100, etc. It has good corrosion resistance and processability, so it is widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, food and other fields
3000 series: This series includes grades 3003, 3004, 3104, 3105, etc. It is a manganese aluminum alloy. They have excellent corrosion resistance and good processing performance, and are commonly used in the manufacturing of household appliances such as cabinets, refrigerators, and air conditioners
5000 series: This series of aluminum alloys contains alloying elements such as magnesium and chromium, which have the characteristics of corrosion resistance, high strength, and good formability. Common grades include 5052, 5083, 5086, 5182, etc., which are widely used in fields such as ships, automobiles, and train bodies
6000 series: including common grades such as 6061, 6063, 6082, etc., with excellent processing performance and weldability, widely used in aviation, aerospace, automotive, construction and other fields.
6061 aluminum can be tempered to achieve different mechanical properties. For example, manufacturers use these heat treatments to control the material’s strength and ductility. The most common temper is T6, which balances strength and ductility well.
Popular tempers of 6061 Aluminum include:
O: This temper is the softest and most ductile temper of aluminum 6061. It's easy to form and work but has the low strength.
T4: This temper balances strength and ductility. It's ideal for applications where both formability and strength are required.
T1: Similar to 6061-T4, this temper has slightly lower strength and higher ductility than that temper.
T5: This temper balances strength and ductility but is not as strong as 6061-T6. It is often used where good formability and strength are required but not the highest strength.
The best temperature for an application depends on its requirements. Tempering 6061 aluminum, however, can affect its machinability and weldability. If you need help determining which temper is ideal for your application, consult a materials engineer.
As one of the most popular aluminum grades, 6061 is often chosen for structural applications, welded assemblies, electronics, and a variety of industrial and household items. 6061 aluminum sheet, 6061 aluminum tube and 6061 aluminum bar offer high-to-moderate strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and superior machinability and weldability. 6061 aluminum offers greater strength over other alloys in the 6xxx series, which is why it’s chosen for applications that require tough, yet light material.
6061 T6 is one of the most commonly requested versions of 6061 aluminum. The T6 refers to the temper or degree of hardness, which is achieved by precipitation hardening. This grade has a good strength-to-weight ratio and is also heat-treatable. With great formability and weldability, it is used for engineering and structural applications, boats, furniture, and more.
Some of the characteristics of 6061 aluminum include: good weldability, machinability, corrosion resistance, and workability. Generally, the corrosion resistance and strength are improved through tempering. Tempering is the process of enhancing the characteristics of metal by subjecting it to a high temperature. The alloy is heated to a temperature just below the melting point. Tempering strengthens the alloy by reducing its brittleness and internal stresses.
