5083 Aluminum Alloy Plate Introduction
5083 Aluminum Alloy is an aluminum magnesium alloy with magnesium and traces of manganese and chromium. It is very resistant to attacks from seawater and industrial chemicals.
Alloy 5083 retains excellent strength after welding. It is not recommended for use at temperatures above 65°C. Alloy 5083 is also widely used in cryogenic applications because it can be cooled to -195°C. At this temperature, the alloy has an increase in ultimate tensile strength of 40% and in yield strength of 10%, as well as shows excellent tensile strength at such temperatures.

Aluminum 5083 VS Aluminum 5052
Aluminum 5083 has less magnesium content as compared to aluminum 5052. Higher magnesium content translates to higher strength. Therefore, that makes one alloy stronger than the other one. In the 5052 vs. 5083 strength aspect, it follows then that aluminum 5083 is stronger than aluminum 5052.
When it comes to manganese content, there is also a notable difference. The higher percentage of manganese in aluminum 5083 makes this alloy more weldable than aluminum 5052.
The Most Advantage of 5083 ALuminum Plate Sheet
The selection of ocean panels is more stringent. Currently, most aluminum alloy products are used, such as 5083, 5052, 5454, and 5754.
In practical applications, the advantages of 5083 aluminum alloys are obvious. One is low density, which can reduce the weight of ships, save energy, and increase load; Secondly, it has good corrosion resistance, reduces filling costs, and extends service life; Thirdly, it has good welding and processing performance, which is beneficial for post-processing; Waste is easily recyclable. Meanwhile, it will not burn and can be safely opened.
5083 aluminum alloy is a high magnesium alloy that has good strength, corrosion resistance, and processability in non heat treated alloys. The surface is very beautiful after anodizing. Good arc welding performance. The main alloying element in 5083 alloy is magnesium, which has good corrosion resistance, weldability, and moderate strength. The excellent corrosion resistance makes 5083 alloy widely used in marine applications such as ships, as well as welding parts for automobiles, airplanes, and light rails.
5083-H116 For products made of 5xxx series alloys with a magnesium content of 4% or more. These products have the required mechanical properties and resistance to spalling and corrosion.
5083-H111, full annealed products that have undergone a moderate amount of work-hardening, but can’t reach the hardness of the H11 condition.
5083-H112: Applicable to products that are hot rolled. The mechanical properties of products in this condition are required by regulations.
5083-H321: This is suitable for processing aluminum materials with magnesium content greater than 4%, and the degree of work hardening in both hot and cold working is slightly less than that of H32. The technical parameters of H116 are demanding, with strict requirements for anti-corrosion properties and magnesium content; however, H321 has good performance stability.
What are the grade names for 5083 in different countries
5083 grade is a common aluminum alloy material with different standard codes and recognitions internationally. In China, its national standard number is GB/T3190-1996, which represents its compliance with China's aluminum alloy material specifications. In the ISO standard system, 5052 is labeled as AlMg4.5Mn0.7 with the international standard number ISO 209.1-1989, indicating a magnesium content of 2.5%. In Japan, the corresponding standard for this material is A5083, referring to JIS H4000-1988 standard.
In Europe, the EN standard names EN AW-5083/AlMg4.5Mn0.7, with the standard number EN 573-3-1994, emphasizing its universality in Europe. In France, the symbol for 5083 aluminum alloy is 5053 (A-G2.5C), with standard numbers NF A50-411 and NF A50-451, reflecting the industrial standards of France. In the UK, 5083 aluminum alloy is usually marked as 5053 (2L55) and follows the BS "L" standard. Finally, the 5083 material in the United States adopts the code 5052/A95052, with the standard number AA/UNS, which is the standard of the American Society for Testing and Materials.
